Melvin Glenn Covey Sr., 82, of Snowville, died early Saturday morning, May 3, 2008 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. Born November 10, 1925, in Snowville, he was the son of the late Nannie Linkous Covey and Millard D. Covey. He was a retired United States Mail Carrier for the Snowville area, with 23 years of service. He was a member of the Snowville Baptist Church, a member of Snowville Masonic Lodge #159 A.F. & A.M., a charter member of the Snowville Ruritan Club with 31 years of membership, a charter member of the Pulaski County Life Saving Crew, and a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Covey Thacker; a brother-in-law, Albert Woolwine; a brother and sister-in-law, Rudolph and Eunice Luckadoo Covey; and a brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Millicent Allman Covey. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Jean Brown Covey, of Snowville; two sons, M.G. Jr. and his wife, Joyce Warner Covey, of Pulaski, and the Rev. Terry D. Covey, and his wife, Tammy Davidson, of Ferrum; one sister, Madeline Woolwine, of Christiansburg; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Preston and Mary Price, of Carroll County; and a brother-in-law, James Thacker, of Jamestown, Ky. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Drew Covey, of Fishersville, Cindy Covey, of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Amy Covey, of Ferrum. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday May 6, 2008, at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons, with the Rev. Neil Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Hall Cemetery in Snowville, where the V.F.W. Post 1184 will conduct military graveside rites and the Masonic Lodge will conduct graveside rites. Visiting will be anytime after 4 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.seaglefuneralhome.com.
